NEW CITY MICROCREAMERY OPENS A FACTORY, BRINGING SMALL BATCH GOURMET ICE CREAM TO MORE STORES

When the owners of New City Microcreamery opened their scoop shop in Hudson in 2015, the idea was simply to complement the popular restaurant they owned across the street, Rail Trail Flatbread Co.

“We want to keep that momentum that we had created and stay in downtown Hudson ... And we decided that ice cream might pair really well with, you know, pizza and beer as an after-dinner treat,” said Jason Kleinerman, who co-owns the two establishments with friends and partners Michael Kasseris and Karim El Gamal.

But the ice cream — made extra smooth from the company’s liquid nitrogen freezing method — quickly took off on its own. Now, the company is poised to grow further, with a new factory cranking out small batches of creamy goodness to an ever-expanding list of supermarkets where it can be found.
