Modern Valentine's celebrations occur all around the world and February 14th is seen as a day to express love and affection to the special people in your life. With the big day approaching, it’s time to finalize your date plans.  If you're not sure where to start, we’ve got you covered!

Here are a few ideas for your date night with your special someone! When it comes to Valentine's Day expectations, they tend to include flowers, chocolates, and heart-shaped gifts, but you’ve gone the traditional route before. This year, you can surprise your partner by suggesting one of these creative Valentine's date ideas instead.

A CHILL NIGHT IN

Netflix and chill….no, no, but actually Netflix and chill. Eating a delicious meal and then snuggling up on the sofa with some ice cream while watching a fun rom-com sounds like a dream. But it’s Valentine's Day, so you’ve got to go bigger! Wow your Valentine with our delicious red velvet ice cream cakes. Choose from one of our three love notes - “Be Mine”, “Love You” or "Kiss me", perfect for the sweetheart whose love makes you feel like a kid again. Topped with our light cream cheese whipped icing and a decadent layer of fudge, is there anyone who wouldn’t be yours?

A FLATBREAD FOR YOUR SWEETHEART

You and I both know that the classics are classics for a reason. Win over your Valentine with one of our delicious heart-shaped flatbreads. A mouthwatering combination of sauce, bread, and cheese? Now that’s love. And if that doesn’t melt their heart, then one of the adorable handwritten poems from the 2nd grade class of C.A. Farley elementary school included with your take-out box definitely will!

SPEAKEASY SOPHISTICATION

You don’t settle for just any kind of date night. You want something classy but with a hint of adventure. You want something exciting. What better than a speakeasy? Time to see if the cobbler is in! Of course, I can’t say for sure, but I did hear a rumour that he’s been cooking up something spectacular in-between shoe repairs. A four-course spectacular to be exact. Now that will impress your Valentine.

BUT FIRST, COFFEE…

Everyone makes a fuss about dinner for Valentine’s Day but it’s breakfast that’s the most important meal of the day. Join us on Feb 11th and 12th for a fantastic Valentine’s brunch. Spending a relaxing weekend day with your loved ones while enjoying a bloody mary and our brunch della nonna flatbread? That's the way to celebrate.

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day filled with love and joy!

  • Arnold Arboretum: A true jewel to find in the city is Arnold Arboretum, located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. With over 5,000 different species of trees, this is truly a spectacular place to take in the city’s autumn foliage.

  • Blue Hills Reservation: A quick trip outside of the city will bring you to the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA, where you can embark on a fall foliage hike through the reservation’s 125 miles of trail.

One of the best things to do in Boston in October is to visit one of these beautiful destinations, snap some pictures, and take a walk through the picturesque foliage.

2. Take a Fall Flavors Tour Through the City

Don’t forget to grab a pumpkin spice latte or hot apple cider to fuel your fall festivities! Thankfully, the city is packed with coffee shops, restaurants, and other eateries where you can enjoy some of the region’s most delicious fall flavors. Our favorite fall drinks, of course, are the ones from our fall drink menu here at New City Microcreamery. We made sure to include classic flavors inspired by the season, with drinks like caramel apple chai, apple crisp latte, maple toffee nut latte, and chai-der.

Another one of the best things to do in Boston in October is to visit one of the city’s many restaurants, where you can enjoy dishes infused with fall-inspired ingredients. To enjoy some classic fare of the New England region, head to Island Creek Oyster Bar to enjoy some butternut squash soup alongside a deliciously fresh lobster dish. Or, head to the city’s North End for dishes that put a seasonal flare on authentic-style Italian cuisine. No matter where you turn in the city, you’re sure to find a myriad of classic fall flavors to enjoy this fall.

3. Visit the Boston Public Market to See the 1,000 Pound Pumpkin

For a unique seasonal experience to check out in Boston this fall, head to the Boston Public Market. Each year, they bring the farm into the city with their pumpkin-filled festivities. One of the best parts of the festivities is getting the chance to spot the giant pumpkin that they transport into the market each year. This year, “The Offical Pumpkin of Boston” weighs in at an impressive 1,020 pounds, making it a true sight to see. On top of this unique display, the Boston Public Market will be infused with pumpkin-inspired festive cheer, with a pumpkin patch, pumpkin events, and over 30 vendors offering fall-flavored fare galore.

4. Go on a Whale Watch out of the Boston Harbor

We know that a whale watch might not be the first thing you think to do when it comes to fall. However, October is actually one of the best times of the year to spot these majestic animals out of the Boston Harbor. The city of Boston hosts a number of high quality whale watching tours, including the Boston Harbor Cruise Whale Watching. The boat’s three outside decks offer plenty of space to enjoy the crisp October air and spot some amazing Humpback Whales. Although not a quintessential fall activity, embarking on a whale-watching tour out of the harbor is uniquely one of the best things to do in Boston in October.

5. Get Your Spook on with a Ghosts and Gravestones Tour

A list of things to do in Boston in October would not be complete without some spooky Halloween-inspired fun. The city’s rich historic past lends itself to the extra spooky and festive aura during the month of October. One way to get your spook on this October in Boston is to partake in a Ghosts and Gravestones tour. You’ll set foot on a tour of Boston’s most haunted sites, visit a nearly 400-year-old burying ground, and hear all about the darker side of the historic city’s past. It’s a unique must-do October activity in Boston that will get you in the Halloween spirit!

If there’s one thing for sure, it’s that there is no shortage of things to do in Boston in October that will fill the month with crisp-aired festive fun. From enjoying the fall flavors and foliage to embarking on a spooky haunted tour of the city, you’ll have a month of autumn-inspired activities. So, use this list of best things to do in Boston in the fall to start planning out your month! It’s sure to create a quintessential fall-filled city experience.

New City Microcreamery's Sudbury Scoop Shop is Opening!

We are beyond excited to announce that New City Microcreamery Sudbury is opening on Saturday, March 12th! Our third shop is located in Sudbury, MA at the Meadow Walk Shopping Plaza. Come say hi and enjoy the delicious liquid nitrogen ice cream you all know and love!

We are so proud and excited to announce the grand opening of New City Sudbury will be on Friday, March 18th! We will be open on Saturday, March 12th and Sunday, March 13th as well to break in the new scoop shop before the big day! Our Sudbury scoop shop is located at the Meadow Walk Shopping Plaza and is Sudbury’s only ice cream shop!

In early 2021, we began the journey of opening our third shop. Following our expansion into Whole Foods markets, we chose Sudbury to launch our new shop, one of the towns where our pints had hit the Whole Foods shelves. At our Sudbury location, you’ll be able to find your favorite scoops, from New City originals, dairy-free flavors, and vegan options. We may also have some Sudbury-exclusive flavors under wraps…but that’s all we’ll say for now!

We want to take the time to thank each and every one of our guests for supporting this journey. Since we opened our first ice cream shop in Hudson, Massachusetts in 2015, we have continued to be amazed by the support, love, and friendships that have been built. Our dream has always been to spread the joy of delicious liquid nitrogen ice cream to more places and more people, and we are excited to do that with our third scoop shop.

As we continue to expand our business, the core of the New City Microcreamery brand—community, local dairy, and small business ethics—isn’t going anywhere. So stop on by our Sudbury scoop shop, say hello to some familiar faces, and enjoy the scoops you all know and love.
